After finishing my new book, I went back to my first book «Βασίλισσες του Καπνού» (Queens of the Smoke). It is a book that has helped me overcome past difficult situations, like the death of my father. Suddenly I felt suffocated; it was as if the “Queen of the Smoke” was looking at me, disappointed, because I was not letting her “fly”.

My name is Manolis Xagorarakis, and it was recently (January 2015) that I was given the opportunity by Mr. Iraklis Lampadariou and his saita-team to release my scientific work. Writing it was an “Odyssey”, one I started writing in 2001 and completed recently. It is an analytical theory, based on the entity number and how it exists and its relativity. It is a field of knowledge, where clear proof is given and where the scientific data is stirred.  It is a theory written by the mostly common, therefore indisputable elements of logic, and it is for anyone regardless of education and studies.

I have been looking for a while to use the amazing ideas and creative works of the teachers, in the borough I work, in our aim to create educational supportive material which will be directed to those who deal with preschoolers. I just could not do it! It was so expensive! That is when, just as I was about to give up on my dream, I “stumbled” on Saita Publications and its slogan, “let your books fly free!” Was it possible, and are there any selfless people left nowadays? Saita Publications, a unique team of young people, selflessly gave wings to our work and let it fly to new heights!

Iraklis Lampadariou, is a young man with great enthusiasm and with a sense of solidarity. He started Saita Publications and gave the opportunity to the young and old authors to publish and promote their work, free of charge and freely. It was a bold venture! It took soul and virtue to shape the dream. It took courage!

“Let your books fly free”, is Saita Publications’ slogan, and it allows the authors to promote their work with no charge to their readers, with the Creative Commons License. Saita Publications redefines the relationship between reader-author-publisher, with no restrictions. In a time where poverty forces many not just to live but survive, access to books is difficult. That is when Saita Publications appeared, and with their selflessness and without profit, gave the chance to any bookworm to keep on reading. This is where it met the book “Είμαι παιδί, έχω και εγώ δικαιώματα” (I am a child, I have rights too), on the never ending Saita flight, and began its digital journey.

I would like to give a warm thanks to Iraklis Lampadariou for trusting me, and to Minos-Athanasios Karyotakis, who designed the cover and did the page layout of the book, and to everyone else who helps Saita Publications to bloom, by donating their time selflessly.

A few years ago, the “saita” (paper plane) we played with when we were children, came to my mind, the one we used to make, using our creativity and imagination, and then we would travel on it towards the dream. This “saita” is still here, and I am very happy and grateful, to have rediscovered it again. It has expanded since then…and now it nurtures the dreams of all those who want to express their emotions and ideas. It is real, it is honest, and it speaks to you with respect and love, because like you, it aims for the same thing…people’s hearts. This “saita”, which was made from people’s enthusiasm and hard work, is so big and it travels all around the world. I am thankful it “knocked” on my heart, and has led me down a more real and beautiful path.

Once upon a time there was a Saita which flew here and there. There was also a guitar which played music. They met one day and the Saita took the guitar’s voice and traveled it free to where the wind blows, where there are no borders or limits. This small story seems false, but it is true. In this age, where our thoughts, emotions and the needs of people are calculated and then cut, sewn, restrained, and contained into small boxes to not “escape the boundaries”, there are people who create saites so dreams can fly free.

Ioanna Manafi talks about her co-operation with Saita Publications

This was our first attempt to publish a collective ebook and we were lucky to co-operate with Saita Publications’ team. Ideal collaboration, timekeeping, great patience and persistence for the perfect result characterized a team having vision, imagination, interest and artisrty.

Saita Publications gave another vision to our work. They gave it wings to fly free and become holding of whoever is interested in something beyond financial exchanges.

The idea of Saita Publications attracted my attention for the first time when I visited its webpage. I wondered if it was ever possible for young people with no return at all but only their personal satisfaction to devote time for the creation of books. The books I found on Saita web page surprised me pleasantly. The word that fits perfectly, in my opinion, is quality. Not only in an authorship way but in a wider aspect. The whole image of the books gave me the impression that a serious job has been done behind; it was not about “let’s take it easy and we’ll see what is going to happen”.

When I was a child, in the summer nights I would sit in the garden of our house and wait for the fireflies to appear. I had a lot of queries about the winged little fairies. How did they appear during the day? What do they eat? Why don’t they come at winter to decorate our Christmas tree and many others, but I was not really bothered. At that time, I had created my own imaginary stories about them and about the fairy, which with her magic wand would light up their wings and every night I would fly with them and I would have the finest travels of my childhood.

The editing of a collective volume is a multidimensional and demanding task. A project like this demands cooperation and a common vision amongst the co-editors, identifying willing associates for the writing of the individual chapters, involvement of associates with topics such as the design of a cover, but also an interest for the project to taken over by a publisher.

In a time where the social network is dissolving, Saita Publications has found the “way”, in my opinion, to resist the current climate. Maintaining a high aesthetic and quality from their  first “release”, the creator Iraklis Lampadariou’s vision, and  the responsible evaluation  of the associates,  which was to give without receiving, was passed down to me from our first internet discussion.

I call forth, illustrators, graphic designers and writers to contribute to their efforts, which aim to not only make our libraries richer, but our hearts as well!

Saita Publications and the wonderful Iraklis Lampadariou, the owner of the “general order”, fulfilled a latent desire of mine: that one day I might cast onto a Saita some of my short stories, which in one of their flights will bring to many acquaintances-strangers, literature searches and nostalgic valuations. As with each day that we are becoming more digital I saw, I got inspired, I wrote, I published!

Everything was about placing my trust in the publications which –as innovation-brighten Greece with their work, as they do not gamble the writer’s dream; they make it come true selflessly!

Saita has asked me to describe in two words my collaboration with them. Two words might not be enough. Fun, team spirit, respect, and most of all a creative mood is the thread of life of Saita. The collaboration with them was just the interpretation of the term “collaboration”. You may search for the word in the dictionary and wonder “what would our lives be like without profit?” I would say “a paper plane with broken wings”. I wish that all of the books become seaworthy, to expand and to always be there to connect ideas with people.

Why Irakleas and why Saita...

The most difficult question is why ... 

And this is WHY I must answer ... and have some  proper justification ... 

Because Irakleas is the publisher of the future and Saita Publications is his child. 

When I read the interview in LIFO, I said “here we are, this is the right man". 

In this gloomy period of unemployment and ugliness, Saita is piercing our indolent buttocks slightly. 

And we, the authors of starvation, the most narcissistic creatures, should embrace such initiatives ...
